General Speech doesn’t normally carry comics or manga, but this one is an exception. Maruo Suehiro (b. 1956) illustrated the cover of The Stalin’s seminal “Mushi” LP, several of Michiro Endo of the Stalin’s solo works, as well as the covers for 80s Japanese underground bands like Funeral Party, Celluloid, Kyouakukyoujindan, and others.
When he wasn’t lending his skills illustrating cover artworks for underground musicians, Maruo was a cult comics creator, illustrating some of the most shocking and disturbing stories imaginable, gaining notoriety both inside and outside of Japan as the master of the erotic grotesque. A style that became colloquially known as “Ero-Guro”. His books are rarely available in English, and when they are they quickly go out of print. This is Maruo Suehiro's first book translated into English in nearly 12 years.
Beautiful Monster presents sixteen short comics in 200+ pages from Japan's master of erotic horror, with 2 essays by Michiro Endo of the Stalin, and Maruo himself. These stories are from 1981-1983 (plus a story from 2000).
