V.A. - Gozira Special Dinner LP (70s Japan Punk Omnibus)

$32.00
sold out

One of the most essential pieces of Japanese punk history. This official reissue makes available once again, the Gozira Records catalog, the first independent punk label in Japan. Starting in 1978 they quickly documented the Tokyo punk scene in less than 2 years with six DIY 7” singles by Mirrors, Tsunematsu Masatoshi, Mr. Kite, Maria 023, and Flesh. These are really some of the only “KBD” type releases from Japan, and show a diverse mix of styles from straight up 77 sounding punk, to UK post punk tinged hard punk, to things closer to NY No Wave, but getting down to it, every one of these bands sounds unique and amazing in their own way. Originally released in 1983 as the original records had already turned into collectors items, rare unreleased, and blistering live studio tracks were added to fill up the rest of the LP. This reissue also reproduces the GIANT original poster insert in immaculate quality, which contains a 70s tokyo punk chronology, history of each band, and a huge photo collage with incredible images of the earliest punk era in Japan. Highly recommended, and if you’re unfamiliar, take a listen:
