Distro Update 2020.10.02 - UK Punk and Restocks
Limited UK Punk Reissue Update!!
I’ve imported some limited UK punk reissues, a few of which are the very last copies the label had, and also filled the store with some restocks including the new Sore Throat CD, and some other classics.
Here’s my reviews/descriptions of the new items:
Satan’s Rats – What A Bunch Of Rodents LP
I am very excited to stock this LP by one of my absolute FAVORITE bands. Satan’s Rats were a 70s UK punk band from Worcestershire who eventually morphed into the 80’s new wave band The Photos, but before that they cut 3 perfect punk singles from 1977-1978. These singles found popularity among the truly punk obsessed, with tracks like “You Make Me Sick” being covered by German punk band Upright Citizens, as well as popularity with collectors, as the singles have now become sought after collectors items. Highly recommended!
Physicals – Skullduggery LP
Mightily underrated 70s punk limited to just 295 copies featuring at one time or another members of the Sex Pistols, Users, Generation X, Chelsea and UK subs, and led by Alan Lee Shaw on Guitar, the man behind classic 70’s bands such as The Rings who cut a fantastic single on Chiswick, and Maniacs who released the fantastic “Chelsea 77” single produced by Dave Goodman. Physicals original single “All Sexed Up” is a classic, and this LP compiles everything including rare tracks. Highly recommended
John The Postman – Is Still Above God LP
70’s Manchester punk lim to 300 copies. Where the Buzzcocks created the most perfect music to come from Manchester in the 1970s, or some would argue the most perfect music anywhere, Manchester scene legend John The Postman created the most absolutely imperfect music from Manchester in the 1970s, and many would argue the most imperfect music anywhere. This is a complete shit-fi punk disaster not for the faint of heart. For fans of Danny and the Dressmakers.
Maniacs – So Far So Loud LP
Limited 40th anniversary collection of everything from this classic band that left us far too little. The brainchild of Alan Lee Shaw, the man behind classic 70’s bands such as The Rings who cut a fantastic single on Chiswick, Physicals (we also have their LP in stock), among others. This LP contains all their studio tracks, the classic vortex club tracks, studio demos, and some live offerings.
Neon Hearts – Popular Music LP
Hot on the heels of their classic Venus Eccentric single, the first LP from 1979 loving reissued true to the original. Classic first wave punk/powerpop. A must if you enjoy bands like Exploding Hearts, Rezillos, Buzzcocks, etc.
Rubella Ballet – Dayglo Daze (singles) LP
A complete collection of this 80’s UK peace / anarcho punks band’s classic singles in one affordable package. Warning - The cover of these are a pixilated, possibly intentionally? I’m not really sure, but if it bothers you, you may want to pay out $$$ for the originals instead.
Victim – The Teen Age 7”
Classic 70’s punk from Northern Ireland follows their debut singles up with this masterpiece of punky powerpop in 1980, and one of my favorite singles of all time! While their first single on cult label Good Vibrations (Undertones, Rudi, Protex, etc) commands the high ticket price, this 7” is not quite as revered, is their shining moment in my opinion. Produced by none other than Rat Scabies of the Damned! Official reissue.
V2 – Speedfreak b/w Nothing To Do 7”
A notorious, dangerous, legendary, and still unknown Manchester punk band from the 70’s who weren’t quite as well mannered as fellow first wave Manchester punks the Buzzcocks. This is an exact repro of their classic single with the hit track Nothing to do. Listen Here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpRQrFTy4zw
From the label:
V2 formed in March 1977 evolving from the early Manchester punk scene based around the legendary Electric Circus venue. Of the four Manchester punk bands around at the time - The Fall, Buzzcocks, V2 and Warsaw - V2 were the ones who fell to earth: 'as subtle as flying buzz-bombs' and destined for the same early grave. V2 gigs were chaotic, but this was where they really made their mark.
Audiences were treated to a white-faced, black-eyed, bad-skinned young band wearing Frankenstein boots, who attacked the crowd with guitars hacked into cricket bats, bombed them with flour bags and once, set them on fire with cheap flash-bombs thrown by a drunken 'helper'. You either loved 'em or you fuckin' hated em!. Faced with a constant lack of money / motivation and bad management the
band fell to bits. Underachievement has given the band a cult status that some 'more successful bands' can only dream of.
Epileptics – 1970s EP 7”
Plastic Crap! Plastic Crap! The final classic release from this Harlow band who eventually morphed into Flux of Pink Indians. This release which is a rerecording of their debut EP under the name The Licks, features faster, and punchier versions that are much closer to the Flux of Pink Indians sound on the Nue Smell 7”. While fans of 70’s punk will certainly enjoy the Licks 7” recordings better as they are a bit more fun and bouncy, this will appeal to fans of a bit rougher punk, or fans of Flux. In my opinion, both versions are absolutely essential! Limited white vinyl.
If you are looking for more UK punk we also have the fantastic Newtown Neurotics LP + Booklet, 16 Guns – Reissue LP, Menace – Reissue 7”, Rudimentay Peni 7”, as well as releases by Hard Skin, Cock Sparrer, Hysteria Ward, and Hollywood Brats (pre- The Boys)
ALSO IN STOCK!
Sore Throat - Who Killed Gumby CD
22 tracks of cider swilling, system smashing, Evo sniffing, Tory punching, fashion hating, Nazi crushing, total fucking noise!
Barry Rolfe - Look The Business 7"
Reissue of this 1973 proto punk rocker. For fans of early Cock Sparrer, or glam groups like Slade or the Sweet, this time packaged in a nice picture sleeve.
Voor - Evil Metal LP
Voor who have now reached legendary status for their “Evil Metal” demo, captured in excellent quality on this LP, as a band that always seemed like a hidden gem for collector of both punk and metal alike. Voor creates a vibe similar to hardcore bands of the era like Corrosion of Conformity, Accused, etc, and filters them through the rawest possible metal style. Like the Accused meets Venom, a recipe for success thought of by few other bands. This should appeal to most anyone who like raw punk or metal.
Kobra – Confusione LP
Not to be confused with 80’s Italian HC punks Kobra, but this is a brand new Italian HC band, young and full of anger, this record rages. Take a listen: https://ironlungpv.bandcamp.com/album/confusione-mlp-lungs-171-2
The Kids – The Kids LP
The undisputed best early punk band from Belgium, The Kids released this monster LP on major label Phillips in 1978. Since then “punk died” and the label lost interest in keeping it in print. Since, it has become an often coveted and bootlegged release. This 180 gram official reissue, brings a classic essential for any fan of 70’s punk back in print.
Idiota Civilizzato - Idiota Civilizzato LP
New multicultural band from Berlin with a plethora of killer influences. I’ve heard others describe this as a modern day Cheetah Chrome Motherfuckers, and while I don’t agree their sound is that simple, the furious Italian HC years are definitely one source of their inspiration. All in all this is a monstrous record that easily makes it one of my top new releases.
Hollywood Brats – Sick On You 2xLP
Hollywood Brats were England’s take on the New York Dolls, glammed up proto-punks taking a faster, simpler, catchier approach to rocknroll in the early 70s. This is the definitive document of their legacy, featuring all their hits. Hollywood Brats eventually morphed into and even faster punk rock band in 77 called The Boys, who released a string of classic albums during the first wave of punk. Highly recommended
Death Side – Wasted Dream LP
A Japanese hardcore genre classic from 1989. Along with bands like Lip Cream and Gauze they set the standard for furious Japanese hardcore punk.
Cock Sparrer – Shock Troops LP
Their best and most classic release, an absolute essential for anyone.
Cock Sparrer – True Grit LP
Official reissue of all the tracks from their impossibly rare debut album only released on Decca records in Spain. Features classics such as Runnin’ Riot, Chip On My Shoulder, Watcha Gonna Do About It, Taken For A Ride and more.
